House of Illusions, or Dog & Pony Show

This weekend I joined my friends at Collected Works for a reading of Jean Genet's "The Balcony."  Come winter, brilliant directing team Michael Hunter and Jamie Lyons will be mounting the production at San Francisco's Old Mint.  Once the bulk of the nation's wealth was stored there; now the space will hold this performance-in-brothel; exploring the troublesome masquerade of our time and place.

I'd heard San Francisco had changed since I'd lived there last; even my favorite grubby districts, gentrified.  But judging from the sidewalk art in the Mission, it's not social media employees that have taken over the neighborhood.  It's socks.
